THE BREW BENCH / BREW
Your brew, by the numbers.
Scale a recipe by water, coffee or estimated finished drink. Follow cumulative pours, time the brew and save what worked.
Timing is a starting guide. The recipe and timer anchor stay in this browser for reload recovery for up to 24 hours. Reset discards that session. Elapsed wall time includes time away; follow actual flow and your brewer’s instructions. No sound is required.
Make the numbers useful
Begin with the method’s recommended ratio, then change one variable. “Brew water” means water poured, while “finished coffee” allows for liquid left in the grounds. The finished-volume mode estimates dose = target volume ÷ (ratio − retained liquid). It is approximate, especially for immersion brewing and very small batches.
A 500 g pour-over at 1:16 uses 31.25 g coffee. At an assumed 2 g/g retention, the estimated drink is 437.5 ml. If you want 500 ml in the cup, this model needs 35.7 g coffee and 571.4 g water. We show both so that a bigger recipe does not quietly become a smaller drink.
Instructions remain available in the brewing guides. For Switch 02, this planner limits closed-valve starting recipes to 240 g brew water and 20 g coffee, based on Hario’s example. These are conservative recipe limits, not a measured physical capacity; use a smaller amount when your setup needs more room. A larger entry cannot raise those limits. For a larger drink, use the Switch bypass example or make separate brews. For moka, capsule and AeroPress, use the device-specific recipe and limits rather than scaling a vessel past its capacity.
